After waiting several hours, Clef brought the new scroll in, and seeing is son asleep, dropped it casually on Link's gut. With his other hand, he butted the end of his staff on the floor at the same time the scroll would hit, adding sound to sensation to wake the boy.
Link blinked, fumbling beside his bed, before taking an arrow and letting it ignite. He held it to the frozen assignment, which, thawed in mostly legible condition. Hyrule's physics were weird.
HE sighed and sat on the edge of the bed carefully. "you do know you can do this, right?" he asked, softly. "You're stronger than this assignment." He reached over and touched his head gently. "You're smarter than you know. I believe in you," he said so quietly it was almost a whisper.
"That isn't the kind of strength I meant. No one is questioning your skills as an archer. And I know you can do a lot of other things, but you can also do this. I know you can. And I will never, ever, give up on you."
That call to Wake.... had it been a Chara? She had actually thought it was Rhythm, when she opened her eyes, so she was very confused to see herself sitting in the grass in the middle of a stand of trees. Very. But this was hardly the oddest situation she'd found herself in recently.
Wait.
Nadeshiko looked down at herself, then nodded. Long pretty kimono inspired dress, long purple hair up in a long ponytail with pretty dangles. Soft house slippers in liliac. Well... she'd have to find proper outdoor shoes, if nothing else. Sitting on her shoulder - visible only to children under the age of 4, animals, children with their own charas, or people strongly tied to magic or souls (so Link and Epona can both see it) was what looked like a small doll in a kimono with purple hair... that happened to be moving, looking around as confused as she seemed to be.
"Temari?" NAdeshiko asked, eyes shifting to meet the small chara.
The small chara in turn shook her head. "I don't sense a batsu-chara or Batsu-tama anywhere, Nadeshiko... But I don't think I like this place..."
"We'll find a kitchen somewhere and i'll make tea and we can figure things out," the child assured the small doll-creature with a chuckle. "Besides, when can the Guardians ever resist one of my tea sets?"
Link was on patrol, making sure the Welcome Houses were stocked, when he came across a new face. It was in his nature to approach newcomers with a smile, and that's just what he did this time.
"Hi! Welcome to the city. My name's Link! Do you need any help getting around?"
She blinked then smiled warmly, guessing him to be a year or two younger than her own lofty thirteen and a half. Which despite the ears made him a student in her mind, and thus hers to help and protect.
And possibly play with. That smile might remind her a bit too much of Yaya.
She gave a small delicate chuckle, lifting her hand to cover her mouth demure as she did. She moved with a subtle grace that showed in even the slightest motions, and that lift of her hand looked practiced, it was so smooth. "I fear I have gotten a little turned around, but if you could help me find the Royal Garden, I would be happy to make you tea and snacks as a thank you," she said brightly.
Even kids from other schools knew about the Royal Garden and the Guardians. So while she wasn't wearing her uniform, or her cape, she was certain the boy was going to be awed and thrilled. Very few non-guardians got to spend time in the Garden with them, so it was always a treat. And she rarely had an excuse to share that.
Rima was going to have a royal snit fit over it, and Amu was going to be thrilled but act like she wasn't, and that made it all the more amusing to Nadeshiko. Amu was really adorable when she tried to pretend that she didn't care.
Well. He certainly knew one royal garden very well, and he was extremely talented at sneaking past guards to get into it. But, somehow, he doubted she was talking about Hyrule Castle. Even if she were, their current location made the point moot.
Maybe she was another princess? Link did have a habit of running into those.
"I'm afraid you're not where you think you are, Miss."
Link bounced on his toes for a second, thinking. "This city is a place between worlds. You've arrived here because you answered the Call."
Miss? Not Fujisaki-san or even Fujisaki-senpai or -dono? Not Queen? The small chara floated off of her shoulder and started to circle his head, studying him.
"I don't think he's charanari, Nadeshiko..." the small creature said from beside his ear, as if unaware he could hear her.
"A place between worlds?" Nadeshiko asked, as if Temari had not spoken. "The call? I apologize but I seem to be confused." Even in her confusion she seemed demure and sweet. Except for the ignoring the small fairy that was talking about him as if he wasn't there, part. Dreamwidth
"I'm sorry, well no what?" she asked, softly, seeming confused. Did he... had he heard Temari? But then... why didn't Temari sense his Chara? What was Hylian? The word sounded... actually, she knew several languages well enough to converse in them... but she couldn't figure out which one would have a word like that. Perhaps if she saw it spelled?
"I do recall a voice like that, but I thought that it was my brother's friend..."
Link glanced between the fairy and the girl. "Hylian. From Hyrule---it's one of the many worlds represented here." It was also the best world represented in Nautilus, but, Link wasn't going to say that. He knew he was a little on the biased side, considering the centuries of reincarnation. (Even if he couldn't recall most of it.)
He nodded, sympathetic. "Yeah, I wasn't sure who it was when I first heard it either." Link had also promptly took a nap upon Waking, because, every good adventure starts with a nap.
[[ OoC: I'm sorry, I couldn't get her to stop buzzing over this now that my brain is on RP stuff again. Feel free to ignore or let me know if you don't want to play this thread. ]]
Link?
[ She's a little hesitant to message, clearly worried but possibly unsure of how to approach the subject she wants to. ]
I am glad to hear it. You look like you are doing a little better as well.
[ She pauses, then sighs as she rubs the back of her neck. ]
As much as I may like Chat Noir and genuinely trust him as a friend, I do wish he would stop treating you as if you were an ignorant child. You deserve better than that.
If you like, I can talk to him about it? Just so that, if there is a next time you converse, things may go a little better. Or, well, if there is anything else you would like that I can do to help with it, really.
He will, or at least I'd like to think he would. And it matters to me because I consider you a close friend as well, Link -- one I trust just as much as him.
