"That sounds ominous." It was a half-hearted joke.

Link sighed, rubbing his neck. "I couldn't spell great when I was that other Link during the school storm, either. His computer-thing kept fixing mistakes or putting little red lines when the words were wrong. I think his spelling was still a little better though."

He wondered why that skill couldn't have been passed down from his previous lives. Then an awful thought occurred to him. Maybe it had. Maybe the Hero had always just sucked majorly at spelling.

Clef would get to see an interesting expression come across Link's face, as a new thought occurred to the boy. Maybe he could fix that. Maybe, for his future selves, he could fix it. Sure, they were still technically him, but, they were their own individuals too.

And helping other people is what he was all about.

"Hmm...."

He watched him process, watched that expression, and brushed some hair back so it wouldn't be in Link's eyes. "Yes?" He would approve of that line of thought, were he aware of it.

"How much have you read about Hyrule's history?"

It was a related question.

"I'm thinking about something, but, I can explain it better if I know how much you know."

"If you mean my homework about Ganondorf, not more than I knew when you asked me a few hours ago. I have plans to meet with Zelda later to continue my studies."

[younghero]

"So, you don't know the long history. Just the stuff from our lifetime."

Link paused, unsure how to best explain things.

[guru_clef]

"That is correct."

[younghero]

"Well...uh....reincarnation wise, there's some things that kinda hold true hero to hero, life to life...."

Link twiddled his thumbs.

"So, there might be a chance that me learning stuff could make their lives easier."

[guru_clef]

He nodded a bit. "Alright, I could see that." He managed to keep the triumphant glee internal. None of it showed in his gentle smile or soft voice.

"If it helps someone else, it might be worth it..." Link half-smiled. "Maybe, it'll make their lives a little easier."

[guru_clef]

He nodded. "Alright," he said. "And maybe it will have the side effect of making yours easier as well, my boy," he said softly.

[younghero]

Link shook his head with a quiet , dry laugh. "Kinda doubt that. But, I'm hoping this stuff builds life to life, and it'll be easier for them."

[guru_clef]

He leaned over and kissed Link's forehead. "Perhaps so. And if that is the case, we both have work to do, my boy."

[younghero]

"Guess so."

He grinned slightly. "They'll thank me for the bomb arrows too, once I get them balanced enough for use."

[guru_clef]

HE closed his eyes. "I am trying very hard not to think about those," he admitted.

[younghero]

"I could half of this stuff blindfolded. Don't worry about it!"


It was the monsters you had to worry about.

"I worry."

[younghero]

"I'm the safest person in the world to use those, trust me."

Link gestured to some of his drawings. "See, those things are useful against those things."

[guru_clef]

"Safest is still not a guarantee of safe. I worried as your friend and worry as your parent. IT's what you do when you love someone."

[younghero]

"Well...think of it this way. The weapons keep the monsters from eating my face. So, that means weapons help keep me safe."

He had the scars to prove this.

[guru_clef]

He was rubbing at his own face with a small sigh. "That does help," he said, weakly.

[younghero]

"And weapons make me happy. Kinda. They're all neat, I like getting new ones, too."

[guru_clef]

"Is there nothing else in this world that makes you happier?"

[younghero]

Link hesitated. "Anything that helps Zelda or Hyrule or my friends," he said slowly. "But, if you mean just-for-me stuff? I like to go fishing, and I like fresh milk and sweets."

[guru_clef]

"I think that's something we can work on."

He smiled, then blinked.

"Oh yes, someone taught me how to bend these. I was not crazy about them, but perhaps you will enjoy the taste." He focused and Bent up some lemon drops. He held them out.

"Work on it how?" Link was puzzled.

He took one of the yellow candies. "What kind are these? They look a little like hard sap."

Link put the drop in his mouth and winced. "Ergh! Sour!" His expression changed as he rolled the candy in his mouth. "Oh, hey, it sweetens up. Weird!"
