"No overthrowing my boyfriend," she said. Of course that was when the phone connected. "Nothing, Ben. Can you come by my dorm, we need to discuss something. Thanks." She hung up.
"Cause that isn't going to freak him out at all," Evie said.
Mal rolled her eyes and guested at the door. it swung open and a young girl fell inside. "If you are done spying, Freddie, get the boys."
The girl stood and brushed off her skirts. "Nothing wrong with a little intel gathering, even here. So, cute boy wants to overthrow the king, you're trying to help him anyway." She crossed her arms, one hip cocked. "Tell me again how you haven't gone soft."
Mal flicked her fingers. "Get them and stay with us or I'll spell the door so you can't hear anything, shadows or no."
She rolled her eyes. "I'm going tp get them because I'm curious. Not because I'm scared of you." she turned on her spiked heel and sashayed off.
"Freddie on the other hand," Mal said as she left, "Has powers."
"Doctor F. Our old headmaster back at Dragon Hall. Voodoo and spirit work mostly. Tried to take over a kingdom by turning its prince into a frog and replacing him with a puppet. Failed, of course, and his friends on the other side ended him. But like so many others he was brought back just to be imprisoned."
"I don't think it was the nice ones that spent a lot of time with him. They turned a man into a frog, I daresay that wasn't terribly nice. Unless he wanted to be a frog, I suppose. Has anyone asked if he wanted to be a frog?" Ally asked.
"Ah. Shadow magic isn't fundamentally evil or anything. But, there are some nasty ghosts out there. You can usually put 'em in a glass bottle though."
"And, I mean, everyone makes mistakes too. Just because someone turns you into another creature doesn't mean they're irredeemable. I'm good friends with an undead kid who turned me into a Deku scrub while he was under the influence of a mask that was housing a demon."
Link rocked on his heels thoughtfully. "And if someone wants a second chance, I think it's important to give it to them."
"Don't know who this is, but I like him already." one of the three people letting themselves in. He was on the small side, not as short as Clef but probably a little shorter than Link. His hair was jet black at the roots and white on top, and he wore mostly black, white, and red. A small dog trotted in at his feet.
The other guy with him was tall and broad and muscular. HE worse a sleeveless leather shirt ads if to make that even clearer, with a sleeveless vest over it. His longish hair was falling fee out of a beanie. He walked in, grabbed a chair and spun it on one leg till it was face away from the group. Then he slung a leg over and sat, leaning against the back of the chair.
The smaller boy sat in another chair more normally, the dog hopping into his lap. Freddie took the last chair.
"So who is he and why are we talking about second chances?"
"What did you ever need a second chance for?" the taller guy asked, snorting. "Your mother on the other hand..."
"Take it back," he squeaked. "Second chances are bad. But the panic was at least partially faked, the others laughed.
"Not sure where that is. So what... we're stealing the limo? Or the jet. Never stole a jet before..." he said with a grin.
"Um, it's not like stealing a limo, Jay," the white and black haired boy said. "Limos are just big cars. JEts are more computer than anything else."
JAy grinned and grabbed the smaller boy around the neck with one thick arm and started nooging the two-toned hair. "Then it's glad we have Carlos DeVil, hacker genius on our side."
"Ow... owowowoowowow" Carlos whined, trying to squirm free without displacing the dog.
"What do we need a portal for?" A young man asked, walking in. He was about Mal's age in a blue suit and a somewhat unimpressive looking air to him. He stepped fully into the room and sat on the bed next to Mal putting an arm around her waist and kissing her temple. "What did I miss?"
"Slight issue," Mal said leaning against him. "We have an unintended visitor. He wants to go home, but getting him there will take some serious magic."
"I don't see why is was so hard," Ally said. "It was not hard to bring him here, given it was an accident. Can't we just do the same thing in reverse."
Mal rubbed at her face. "What brought him here, as I understand it, had one loose variable, hero, and one firm one. Here. Here was understood. Hero could have grabbed anyone who fit the criteria."
Carlos, having pulled himself free. "Yeah, makes sense. We could probably send him generically away as easily as he was brought her, and I want to know how that happened, later. But his home is a specific target. And he is not as understood a property as HERE os for any of us but him. If he had magic, it would be easiest for him to send himself home, but absent that... we might send half of him by accident, or land him somewhere else."
"But he does have magic!" Ally protested.
"Magic that didn't work," Jordan put in.
"I think I need to be a bit more caught up than that," the newcomer said, then looked to Link. "However it happened, welcome to Auradon. I am King Ben."
“I tried one song. I have others, you asked me to stop trying, because, you’d be in trouble. Otherwise, I’d still be attempting it.” Link sighed. “You don’t quit after one go.”
He eyed the newcomer somewhat stoically. “I’m Link, of Hyrule, in willing service of her highness, Princess Zelda.”
"I am not aware of that kingdom, or princess," Ben said, inclining his head slightly. "If there is a reasonable way to get you home, I will of course do what I can to aid you and your kingdom. Can you explain to me more what you mean by one song?"
Link blinked at him. “A song is affixed to a location. When you play a the song with a magical instrument, it teleports you there. Saved a lot of walking.”
"Magic was once a very big part of Agrabah as well," Jordan said.
Ben sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "I am fighting enough battles as it is, he said softly, but firmly. "I need to tread with caution, and you all know that."
"Heroes also have to help those in need," Mal said softly.
Ben nodded. "Yes, and I never said we wouldn't help, but we will examine other avenues first."

He wondered if Shadow would get along with her.
“And overthrowing a monarchy is only plan B. “

Re: A Hero Descends
Link grinned slightly. “I’ll go to Plan C. But, can’t make any promises beyond that. My princess and country need me. And I need them.”

Link shook his head and sighed. “But, I’ve been told my world is distressing, so, maybe I’m a bad judge.”

Re: A Hero Descends
Hyrule would be easiest, and from there, as an Ashura, he was confident he could get back to Nautilus.

Link gave one of his sheepish smiles.
“Hyrule is not exactly high-tech.”
